License for Natural gas trading: What you need to know
Natural gas trading may be carried out only on the basis of an issued license. The process of obtaining a license for natural gas trading in Bulgaria is regulated by the Energy Act and requires undergoing a procedure before the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC).
The applicant must be registered under the Bulgarian Commerce Act, or hold an equivalent registration under the legislation of another Member State of the European Union.
As part of the licensing process, the applicant must demonstrate that it:
1. Possesses the necessary financial resources;
2. Has the required qualifications and experience;
3. Maintains the technical resources and infrastructure needed to perform the activity.
Following recent amendments to the law, applicants are no longer required to submit a business plan. Instead, they must provide financial forecasts for the next three years, as well as projected prices and quantities related to natural gas trading for the same period.
After obtaining the license, the licensed entity must conclude the necessary agreements with the national system operator before commencing operational activities.
